If you think trading is a business, then this is the only business in the world which you can't operate on weekends. So out of 52 weeks that is 365 days we have in a year, in that every week if 2 days holidays then 2*52 = 104 days out of 365, it's gone, and you're just left with 260 excluding national holidays.
And mind you the window of opportunity is very less than you think. For example, if there is any news like war, natural disaster etc. which create volatility, gap up down days plus, national holidays, then I think we have like just 100 to 150 days, in this the actual trendy days will be very less. So, a trendy market in any year will last for 2-3 months without considering if it's a bull market or bear market.
In this case, if you say, I will sit out as a swing trader or I will only do long trades and not short then the thinking is completely wrong according to me.
Hence no matter what, the objective of any trading session is to make money and if at all no money then at least don't lose money so that you don’t waste time recovering it. This mindset helps me to build processes & systems around it.
